What are pixels?
A pixel is the smallest element of an image that can be individually processed on a video display screen. To us they are the small dots of color, that when taken together, form an image. An individual pixel is too small to see clearly; only when formed into larger groups can we ‘see’ them. So, as an example, everything represented on this page takes many pixels to form as clear images.
What is pixel advertising?
Five months ago, a 21-year old British college student named Alex Tew needed to finance his college education for the upcoming school year and played around with ways to make money. He came up with the concept of ‘pixel advertising’, or selling pixels in sets of 100 (the smallest grouping that would form an image the naked eye could see). He fixed the price at $1 per pixel, or a minimum buy-in of $100. Advertising, as we all know, has been around forever, as a way for people to market their wares or services. His idea took it to a new venue.
How is your pixel ad site different?
Our site is different because, from the beginning, we structured it with both the consumer and advertiser in mind. Our site is like a rolodex of ads/businesses from across the country. A person can visit our site and find ads/businesses in every major city and metro area in the country. If a person wanted to know what kind of businesses are in Orlando, they can click to that page on our site and see who has chosen to advertise there. This feature benefits the advertisers. In a short period of time we will launch several features that we hope will keep consumers returning to our site. That benefits both the consumer (to check out features that continue to be interesting), and the advertiser (repeat hits = repeat exposure to their ad).
Hence, our site is different, and better I might add, because we have thought of ways to keep people returning to the site over and over, long after the initial interest wanes. The majority of other sites have failed to do this, which is why it seems to many as if the ‘fad’ of pixel ad sites is expiring. We don’t think it has to. Plus, as far as we can find, we are the first pixel ad site to have 100 pages of ads in one place.
Why should I buy pixels on your site?
We were the first to take the concept of pixel advertising to the next level. Our business has long-term plans for growth, as well as repeat and ever-increasing traffic to the site. Also, we chose to have pages based on regional areas of the US so that people could go to one spot (ours!) to find ads. For many small businesses, which are most of the businesses in America, spending even $100 over a two-year time span with the possibility of generating large exposure can be a good investment.
Who are you?
We are a husband and wife couple from the Seattle area. Tim has been working on computers for 23 years, in some capacity or another. He started in his teens, and over time, has built up quite an understanding and breadth of knowledge. He has worked for various companies, some dealing directly with computers, and some as an adjunct. He has had his own computer business for 16 years and it handles networks, servers, security, and the like. Kim, a previous 5th-grade teacher, is now a stay-at-home mom. We’re basically two people who had some knowledge and a lot of good ideas about how to make a concept better and ran with the idea.
Why do I have to buy at least 100 pixels?
It would be difficult to see an image well that is less than 100 pixels.
How long will the site be online?
It is guaranteed to be online until March 1, 2008. The site will, barring any unseen events, be online well past that date. But at that point we reserve the right to renegotiate fees, terms and conditions.
Why will our ad be posted for 2 years?
Other sites are averaging 2-5 years, but the sites that offer 3+ years may not have invested as much as The Logo List has, nor be expecting the amount of traffic that we are hoping to get and sustain! Our site has the goal of longevity and high numbers of repeat traffic.
Why do you charge 10 cents per pixel when other sites charge as little as one cent?
Some sites are charging less per pixel for many reasons: the amount of time and money they have invested in the site; uniqueness of idea; and plans for their website’s long-term growth and sustainability. We think 10 cents per pixel is the going rate for what we have invested.
